I've played 10 games of CW.

9 losses

1 defense win - easy
1 defense loss against a full team and they won only in the last seconds.

8 losses as attack that ranged from one almost win to many disasters.

First, why am I on attack so often? Second, why has attacks been so hard even when faced by like forces?

I play well. I follow the groups plans and always score well. It's getting a bit frustrating to always lose. Is joining a large group the only way to insure a regular amount of victories in CW?

Are you playing IS vs IS our are you playing against the clans? The clans have superior firepower and generally do well in defensive games. Joining a big competent group is certainly a way to boost your winning potential

I'm playing against clan much of the time - but I have faced both house and clan. Understand that I'm not complaining as much as I'm trying to understand the system well enough to enjoy CW.

Attack requires more coordination, and the willingness to put yourself in harm's way to make the push. This is opposite what many people learn in regular matches where people tend to try to survive as long as possible.

Remember that high damage totals and high match scores are not good indicators of performance in the Invasion game mode.

In fact, in many cases it's best to NOT kill enemy 'mechs - especially when you're attacking - because the firepower to take them from crippled to killed is best used elsewhere, and killing them just triggers a respawn with the accompanying dropship.

In time, you'll find that Sulfurous is stacked slightly in the attackers' favor, while Boreal is stacked heavily in the defenders' favor.

Then you'll either find a group with a good drop caller, or you'll start shepherding pugs yourself. Your win rate will go up.

You'll be alright.
